The MLK Show - A group exhibition at Mollusk SF and The Great Highway Gallery
Jan 08 2020Mollusk bud and one of our favorite photographers, Paul Ferraris, approached us with the idea of putting together an event centered around the epic swell of MLK weekend in 2013. We of course said yes. Mollusk SF and The Great Highway Gallery are pleased to be hosting The MLK Show: a group exhibition curated by Paul Ferraris. Please join us at both Mollusk SF and The Great Highway Gallery on January 18th, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. This exhibit, featuring 12 photographers, will fill both locations with heavy-hitting images from that weekend. We will let Paul take over from here:
"On the Saturday morning of Martin Luther King weekend in 2013, I woke up and headed out to check the surf. I knew the waves would be big and clean, the Mavericks contest had been called for this day. It was as good as I had ever seen it. Perfect 10 to 15 foot A-frames crashed seamlessly over the out bars. I shot images all morning from different vantage points in the hills overlooking the beach. Through my lens, I could see brightly colored wetsuits disappearing under perfect curtains and then reemerge and go over the shoulders of the waves. It was a special day. And with that, I packed my boards and headed north to surf some reefs I knew would also be perfect. I scored some of the best waves of my life on that swell. I returned to San Francisco I was stunned by the images that were produced. By both luck and knowledge, there were some of the world’s best surf photographers there to capture this monumental swell. This show will highlight what transpired at Ocean Beach, San Francisco on MLK weekend in 2013."
